Believe it or not, the workplace is one of the top venues for forging relationships and finding romance. It’s hardly surprising when you realize how easy it is to get to know someone when you’re in such close proximity for a large part of each day. It’s not unusual for co-workers to know each other better that spouses do because of the amount of time they spend together. If you contrast this with pubs, clubs, discos, parties, in fact any venue where you would have to put in considerable effort to approach someone and then try and get to know them, dating someone you work beside has a lot going for it, couples that initially get together at work are less likely to need a relationship rescue in the future.

Sometimes when you meet someone for the first time, the attraction that is so important for a successful relationship isn’t there, so a follow up date never happens. A lot of the time, you’ll only feel that attraction after getting to know the other person, at least a little. If you’ve met somewhere like a club, then it might take a few dates to know if you both want to continue dating or not. With a co-worker, because it’s likely you’ll already know and like each other, one date will probably be enough to decide.

Trust is another issue that makes dating someone you work beside less of a gamble. You’ll know to a large extent what the other person is really like, after all, you’ve been working together with no romantic inclinations until now. Because there were no hidden agendas, it’s a fair chance that you’ve been honest with each other up till now, so you should have a good idea of how much you can trust them. If, on the other hand, you meet someone in different circumstances, then there’s a good chance they’re not entirely being themselves, probably in an attempt to make a good impression or appear more attractive.

Some relationships breakup once they start spending a lot of time together, they were fine in the beginning just dating, but living together, or getting married, can put some added strains on the relationship and they find that they really don’t have that much in common after all and it ends in the breakup of their relationship. But dating someone you work beside is more likely to last because you already spend a lot of time with them and still want to date them.

But, is it a good idea to date a workmate? You’ve just seen some of the pros to dating someone you work beside, but are there any cons? Of course there are, but that’s a whole other article.
